DALLAS, TX – August 2, 2019 – The Press Club of Dallas Foundation Scholarship Fund has awarded three college scholarships to Dallas area students for the upcoming, academic 2019-20 school year. Administered by Communities Foundation of Texas, the scholarships were announced this evening by the Press Club of Dallas Board during the annual meeting held at KERA.
- A $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Brandon Borick, a graduate of Colleyville Heritage High School, attending the University of Texas at Dallas as a senior this fall.
- A $4,000 scholarship was awarded to Kayla Griffis from Flower Mound, Texas, graduate of Coram Deo Academy, attending Southern Methodist University this fall.
- A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Mary Coffee, a graduate of Highland Park High School, attending University of Georgia (Athens) as a senior this fall.
Applications for scholarships are taken in the spring of each year and are one-year scholarships. “For decades, the Dallas Press Club Foundation has awarded scholarships to help aspiring students pursue careers in the continually evolving field of journalism and communications,” said Jay Rosser, a vice president of the Press Club Foundation. “This effort is enhanced by the ongoing commitment of the Press Club of Dallas in its various fundraising efforts that continue to add to the scholarship fund now managed by Communities Foundation of Texas.”
Katie Kuehl, scholarships program manager for Communities Foundation of Texas added, “We are honored to partner with The Press Club of Dallas Foundation in providing scholarships to support deserving students since we began our partnership in 2010.”
The Press Club of Dallas supports journalism in all of its forms, and annually makes a financial contribution to the foundation to award scholarships to students who have graduated from a high school in the North Texas area, completed at least 45 hours of collegiate coursework, and are currently pursuing a college degree in the communications field, which includes traditional and new media, including print and broadcast journalism, public relations and advertising.
