Reporters Remember: JFK in Dallas – November 14, 2013

October 9, 2013

Reporters who covered the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas will recall their experiences at a reception hosted by the Press Club of Dallas on Nov. 14, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Ben E. Keith Company, 1805 Record Crossing in Dallas.  The event is open to the public.

After a brief reception, Darwin Payne, a retired journalism professor from SMU, author and reporter at the Dallas Times Herald during that fateful weekend, will direct story-telling by reporters who will describe their experiences and respective roles in news coverage.  Among those expected to participate are Hugh Aynesworth, Vivian Castleberry, Helen Holmes, Bert Shipp, Griff Singer and others.

“We’ve been able to locate and invite to the event more than 30 print and broadcast reporters who were active at that time and we expect many of them to be present,” explained Liz Oliphant, past president of the Press Club and chair of the event. “Several reporters who have written about the assassination will have books for sale and to autograph.”

Reservations are required and tickets for the event, which include light refreshments, are $15 for Club members and $20 for non-members.  Tickets must be purchased at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/8534136833/eorg. Free parking is available.  For information, contact oliphantpr@sbcglobal.net.
