Services are pending.
Bert was a longtime member and former president of the Press Club of Dallas He was an integral part of the WFAA-TV newsroom,a pioneer who helped shape the medium as it evolved.
During his 40-year career in local television news, Shipp worked in nearly every facet of the profession, from filming automobile accidents and structure fires to covering the assassination of President Kennedy.
A hard-driving free spirit, he once talked his way into an exclusive interview with the Beatles in their dressing room.
Bert helped H. Martin “Marty” Haag Jr. build Channel 8 into national prominence. “Television news was second nature to him”, said his son Brett Shipp, a WFAA-TV (Channel 8) investigative reporter.
During his career he had received numerous professional honors ; including a Press Club of Dallas Legends award. In 2013 the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences inducted Shipp into its Silver Circle for lifetime achievement.
