INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 8, 2018) – The American has announced a call for entries in its annual Fourth Estate Award, presented for excellent journalism works that have had a positive impact on society. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2018 and winners are expected to attend the award presentation at The American Legion’s 100th National Convention in Minneapolis on Aug. 31.
The American Legion awards multiple prizes to recognize the outstanding achievements in print, broadcast and Online (Internet-based) media. The winner in each category will receive a $2,000 stipend to cover expenses and travel to accept the award.

Submissions are judged on the quality of reporting and documented justification by the reporter or media outlet that the piece or series has had a positive impact on society.
There is no entry fee and no single medium is limited as to the number of entries.
Some past winners have included CNN, USA Today, CBS News, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The Arizona Republic, WXIA-TV, KTVU-TV and The Washington Examiner-Online.
