April Board Meeting Minutes
Tues, April 25, 2017
4:00 – 6:00 pm
The Dallas Entrepreneur Center

The meeting was called to order at 4:08 p.m. by President-elect Lauren Finegan

Attending: Scott Goldstein, Hugh Aynesworth, Lauren Reed Finegan, Frank Librio, JoAnn Holt, Michael Grant, Tristan Hallman, Barry Hoffman, Angela Madison, Ed Bark and Cary Broussard

Absent: Cory Smith

  • Approval of Minutes: March 2017
  • Motion made by Frank Librio and seconded by Michael Grant. Motion approved.
  • Approval of Financials: March 2017
  • Motion made by Ed Bark and seconded by Hugh Aynesworth. Motion approved.

New Board Nominations:

Three nominated Board of Director candidates were invited to attend the meeting and were interviewed:

  • Ayona Anderson
  • Kevin Farrell
  • Martha Tiller

Following the interviews, the Board commented how stellar all candidates were, held a vote and approved all three candidates to serve on the board.

  • Motion was made by Scott Goldstein to approve each board member for board service. Cary Broussard seconded the motion. Motion approved.

Event Updates:

Press Club Happy Hour Events

Lauren Finegan proposed that the Press Club periodically hold happy hour events again that her company would be willing to organize.

  • Motion was made by Michael Grant to budget $100 per event. Barry Hoffman seconded the motion. Motion approved.

The First 100 Days: Political Journalism in the Trump Era at Paul Quinn College

Scott Goldstein reported that 56 tickets had been sold for the May 2nd event, and encouraged all board members to buy tickets if they had not already. One last e-blast event notification, media alert and social media posts were scheduled to be sent later this week.

Legends – Excellence in Journalism Awards Event

Ed Bark and Hugh Aynesworth, co-chairs of the event, reported that the ticket price would be $25 for members and $30 for non-members for the June 3rd event, to be held at the Sixth Floor Museum.

Hugh Aynesworth Journalism Awards

Barry Hoffman reported that entries for the awards were not coming in.

 

President Scott Goldstein adjourned the meeting at 6:17 p.m.
