2012-2013 Committees, Functions and Chairmen

 The same talents, experience and skills that make you a successful professional can also help the Press Club achieve its mission of supporting journalism in all of its forms. Join one of the following committees and get ready for a year of great achievements!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – Allen Manning, allenm@ktvt.com

To produce at least two workshops that will improve the skills and/or job opportunities for working journalists and other communicators. Recent workshop topics were Entrepreneurial Journalism, Mobile Video Production/Editing/Posting and Life After Layoffs.

TOPICAL PROGRAMMING – Rudy Bush, rbush@dallasnews.com

To offer a series of public programs featuring informative speakers and/or panels on “hot” issues facing Dallas, Texas, the country and the communications industry. Recent topics included Lessons for a Changing City: Building West Dallas, Legacies of 9/11 and Boots on the Ground – A First-Hand Report from Afghanistan.

SPECIAL EVENTS/FUNDRAISING – Niki McCuistion, nikicuistion@gmail.com

To produce at least one fundraising event to support club operations and to fund future scholarship grants. This goal is facilitated by the Club’s recent designation as a (501(c)(3).

LEGENDS OF NORTH TEXAS JOURNALISM – David Dunnigan, david@theharrellgroup.com

To produce an awards event honoring retired journalists who made important contributions to the industry or their media outlet. This event has been held for the past two years in late spring.

MONTHLY NETWORKING EVENTS – Paul Wahlstrom, pwahl1@verizon.net

To produce and help promote attendance at monthly networking events that may include special guests, informal speakers and structured information exchanges. Recent venues have included NYLO Dallas, Louie’s and the Dallas Arboretum.

PUBLICITY/MARKETING – Deborah Marine, marine_deborah@yahoo.com

To produce and manage publicity and event promotion, using media relations, the Club’s website (www.pressclubdallas.com), social network (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and other resources. Will coordinate activities with the Professional Development, Special Events and Program committees.

MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT – Deborah Marine, marine_Deborah@yahoo.com

To oversee records so that information about members is current, including weekly follow up on membership applications, integration of new members into club activities and at least annually contact members to update records.

MEMBERSHIP RETENTION – Chris Howell, chris@straittalkonline.com

To create and implement a process to bill members when their membership expires, contacting them to encourage their renewal. Dues billing is handled by the Club’s accountant; the committee would follow up to ensure that dues are paid on time. The committee would also contact members who do not renew to attempt to determine the cause.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT – Allen Manning, allenm@ktvt.com

Goal: To recruit at least 30 new members during the coming year.
